Where would Liow Tiong Lai, Mah Siew Keong or even Abang Johari and leaders of other non-UMNO component parties (especially those from Sabah and Sarawak) hide their faces when UMNO Deputy President and Deputy Prime Minister openly admitted that UMNO is prepared to work with “new friends” even if it means to lose some “old friends” in preserving the sanctity of Islam and Malays’ unity?
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi even said that UMNO and the Federal Government will be taking over the task to prepare the bill to amend Act 355 or Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.
Would MCA and other non-UMNO Cabinet members resigning from the Cabinet the moment Hadi’s motion to amend Act 355 is given government priority for it to be debated and voted in the present meeting of Parliament or if the Federal government takes over Hadi’s bill after his motion is passed in the House?
Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari also spoke of his disagreements numerously with the motion to amend Act 355 but is he also giving a black cheque to UMNO when he said that he would leave the matter to Najib?
This is more so when Hadi Awang openly called for his fellow members to stop criticising UMNO when PAS needs to work together with UMNO in making sure that “Islam and PAS continue to leads and be the dominant force” in Malaysians politics?
There are still a sizeable amount of PAS members and leaders particularly in Selangor, including elected representatives who still does not believe in working with UMNO in any forms. With this open admission by Hadi Awang, their beloved president, are they waiting for themselves to be further alienated, discriminated, betrayed, disappointed or even axed or sidelined from the party? What are they waiting for?
And finally, to the pro-unity government faction in PAS, what would happen if the contents of the final amendment bill to amend Act 355 tabled by the Federal Government deviates from their own version of Islamic laws? On another hand, will they continue to pursue their unity-government agenda with UMNO even if such bill has yet been tabled before the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat?
It is of no doubt that these questions are highly speculative and could be easily quashed aside by those targeted but these questions deal with real situations that could happen anytime from now until the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat.
For those within BN who disagree with such motion to amend Act 355, they must live up to their promises not only by word of mouth but also by action without leaving behind any ambiguity.
For those within PAS who are still living under the illusion that PAS is still working against UMNO, their continued silence and inactions are killing the chances of overthrowing the tyrannical rules of UMNO.
And for those within PAS who believes in working with UMNO, they will have to reap what they had sown and have nobody to blame except themselves if such bill is not tabled.
