Close proximity of project causing fear among residents

RESIDENTS living in Jalan SS1/25 and 22/44 in Petaling Jaya have been having sleepless nights due to the development project behind their backyard.

The residents who live in bungalows, terrace houses and flats along these roads have been worried about the lack of safety measures taken at the development project of Paramount View Condominium.

“I have had metal pieces fall on my garden while I was tending to my plants. I wonder what would happen if the piece were to hit me,” said Katheryn Chong, a resident staying on Jalan SS1/25.

She added cracks had also appeared on her walls, causing constant fear among her family members.

She claimed the drainage system was also not working properly due to the construction which is located right at the back ofher house.

Too close for comfort: Chong showing the construction project which can be clearly seen behind his house. The project has been causing him and his family many sleepless nights.
“We have complained to the developer of the project and had them come to visit our house before.

“They said they would take down all the complaints and would assess the damage and repair what is necessary upon the completion of their project.

“But in the mean time, who will pay for our safety and what if anything were to happen to us,” she added.

Developed by Sri Aman Development Sdn Bhd, the 15-storey condominium project is located at the old squatter area of Taman Aman, near the Paramount Garden LRT station and is near the Section 22 and SS1 residential areas, as well as the Sri Aman Flats.

Some of the residents in the area have also complaint about the noise and falling of construction debris in their premises.

When asked, the project manager Kenny Chong said the company has noted all the complaints lodged by the residents in the neighbourhood but its study found out that there was no structural damage to their properties.

“We have appointed specialists to conduct the study and found out that the structures are still safe. So there is no point carrying out any repair job now. We will carry out such work once the project is completed,” he said.

Construction of the condominium is expected to be completed in March next year. Once completed it would have more than 200 units of medium cost condominium units.

Chong said although the hoarding was built right next to the backyard of the residential units, there was ample distance between the houses to the project site.

He said the building is located 13m away from the fences of the row of houses.

Meanwhile, the Kg Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San said a meeting was held with the residents, developer and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) officials recently and a meeting would be held again next week on the issue.

Lau, together with MBPJ officials, had visited the site on Friday to make assessment on the situation.
