Letter from KDEB: No illegal activities on KDEB land

I REFER to your report “Action on illegal mining soon” (The Star, Nov 12).

The report stated that “the area is a former mining land and part of the 6,000ha is believed to be owned by Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB), an investment arm of the Selangor government”. It also stated that the “land (is) opposite the Selangor Fruits Valley in Batang Berjuntai in the Kuala Selangor district”. Both are factually wrong.

Firstly, the illegal sand mining activities are not being carried out on the land belonging to KDEB as the land opposite the Selangor Fruits Valley in Batang Berjuntai in the Kuala Selangor district does not belong to KDEB.

It is at Batu Arang, a distance away (approximately 15km) from Batang Berjuntai, which is at the border of the Gombak district and the Ulu Selangor district.

KDEB’s land with an acreage of 5,000 is located in Bestari Jaya and has been earmarked for development of the Rancangan Kawasan Khas (RKK) Bestari Jaya, a prestigious sustainable eco-development project. No illegal activities have taken place on the land.
