Why can't we compare with Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea?

The Prime Minister asked us not to compare Malaysia with Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong because "there were differences between Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. This included they were single racial country, therefore the challenges and the human development projects were different from Malaysia and Malaysia was a multiracial country".

I wonder why we can't compare with these nations when we are of the same footing with these countries in late 50s and early 60s.

Singapore and Hong Kong are also Commonwealth countries, which inherit similar British style administration.

Malaysia's (or Malaya's) economy was the second strongest in East Asia in early 60s. Malaya's Ringgit was the second strongest currency then in the region and our per capita income was higher than other countries then too.

Why can't we, after 50 years of independence, compare ourself with these countries who has achieved so much by leaps and bounds?

Why?
