Saw in the press today that you wear a sangkok. Luckily for Teresa, she's not compel to wear a purdah!

Thanks foo yoong for your comments,

I was asked by YB Teresa Kok to follow her to Istana Bukit Kayangan to witness the swearing-in ceremony for YB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as the new Mentri Besar Selangor.

Some have responded to me wearing a Songkok in the palace.

I was informed that it is a compulsory ceremonial dress inside the building of the palace for male.

I don’t have one and it was prepared by the officers as they knew there will be visitors without Songkok, especially non Malays visitors.

Eventually non-Malay reporters will also have to wear it as long as they want to enter the palace to cover any events or press conference. Songkok is a national dress. I will not become a Mat Salleh just because I wear tie and coat.

Some has asked why DAP elected representatives did not wear songkok in Parliament but in Palace. Well, the parliament is the place for the rakyat but the palace belongs to the Sultan.

If the Sultan sets the rule so, the guests have to follow. Unless you don’t want to enter the palace and that will be another issue, that the DAP is not respecting and sabotaging the ceremony.

Do you think I should argue with the Sultan on this?

I am glad you have undertaken to make your blog proactive by taking keen interest to answer any doubts.
I wish to rest my case to avoid joining with others from politicking the songkok issue since I have read of Teng Chang Khim being victimise in the Malaysia Today website.
However there's always two side of a coin to everything. Certain muslims will view non muslim donning the songkok as a mark of respect to their culture but on the other hand if supposing non muslim were to decide to embrace the songkok as part of national identity like the batik, there will be always be an issue for unsrupulous parties to create hoo-ha again. This matter is akin to Indonesia claiming that the batik and Rasa Sayang song belonged to them when they saw Malaysia successfully popularise them.
I can only sum that all this is not of productive concern. It doesn't generate to any wealth-being to the society. While we ought to concerntrate on making economic headways since other less develop countries are now fast catching up and overtaking us, the BN government still wants to harp on trivial matters.
