Zero tolerance against crooks in police

I read Raja Petra Kamaruddin's second open letter to Pak Lah.

What is alarming to me is the fact that Pak Lah once tried to implement the IPCMC but were prevented from doing so because the police, whom represent the major portion of postal voters, threatened to vote opposition.

RPK continues that "In the March 2008 general election, the opposition needed only 300,000 more votes to form the federal government. Therefore, if the postal votes had gone to the opposition, Barisan Nasional would have been out of power. To ensure that the postal votes remained with Barisan Nasional you succumbed to the threats and agreed to compromise on the IPCMC."

What is alarming me is this: if Pakatan Rakyat ever takes over the Federal Government, is the Pakatan-led Federal Government succumbs to the threats of the police forece?

I hope we will not, instead we should start cleaning up the police force. We have to tell the police that this country is run by a group of credible representatives from the police, entrusted by the people to run this country, and not the police. The police, just like other civil servants, are meant to listen to us, to implement our policy. The police has to know that we are running this country, not them.

And we have to ensure them that they will not longer able to threaten us. Now the police is very good at that. The Selangor CPO Khalid Abu Bakar has recently slammed the Pakatan Selangor State Government for not interesting in fighting crimes with the police. You see that the CPO is making political statements which are so unbecoming for a high ranking police officer to say that. A few days ago, the CPO made another statement against two other non-UMNO deputy ministers on the case of Kugan.

I am very sad that the police does not understand the message that people want to convey in March 8 election, August 26 Permatang Pauh by-election and January 17 Kuala Terengganu by-election. I am very sad that the police still operate in the very same way they did before these elections. My Chinese New Year mood was disturbed due to the death of A. Kugan, another death case under police custody.

Therefore, I am saying here, the Pakatan Rakyat government should exercise zero tolerance against those crooks in the police force. Let the police personnel vote freely, they do not need postal votes if they are not on duty on polling day. If a polling station is just a stone thrown of from their house, let them line up and vote in that polling station instead of giving them postal ballot papers.

That will reduce the number of postal votes, and thus reduce the level of foulplay. Postal vote is meant to help those who are on-guard on the polling day to cast their votes, it is not an instrument for the police and the military to threaten anybody.

Secondly, remove those thugs and crooks who are not cooperating. We have a lot of experiences in running the Selangor state government. There are officers who are unwilling to work with us. We are too generous by giving them one full year to adjust themselves but some of them seem to be reluctant.

Well, you can expect big actions from the state government against this group of civil servants. We will not wait. After one long year, you do or you die. And since we have this experience in running the state government, therefore the "grace period" we give to those officers in the federal government, especially the police force will be shorter.

We are going to form IPCMC, repeal ISA, reform the ACA and the MACC (if the recent reforms are deemed to be insufficient). So my words to the police force, do not ever try to stop us. Do as what we order because this is an ORDER!
