Old water pipes in Sungai Way will be replaced

Old water pipes in Sungai Way new village will soon be replaced and a briefing will be held for villagers on 27th March 2013, at 8pm in Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) hall at Kampung Baru Seri Setia (Sungai Way), which is organised by JKKK Seri Setia and will be attended by officers from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) together with representatives from contractors appointed to undertake the project.

Villagers of Kampung Baru Seri Setia or better known as Sungai Way New Village often face problems of low water pressure due to worn-out water pipes which have never been replaced.

SYABAS’s record shows that all pipes within the new village are of the asbestos cement type which has surpassed 30 years of usage. Immediate replacement is required as most of them have worn-out already.

This proposal was raised since 2006. Unfortunately, it was stagnant back then. Finally, SYABAS agreed to undertake and replace old water pipe after years of requests and insistences. In order to ensure this project to run smoothly, a briefing will be held to brief villagers on the details of the project.

I received preliminary information from SYABAS that the project has begun on 15 February 2013 and scheduled to end on 14 November 2013, approximately 9 months. It will cost at or about RM1.54 million and the total pipeline length that will be replaced amounts to 2.145km.

The appointed contractor is Lian Air Plumbing & Construction Sdn. Bhd (Tel: 03-62803289) where they will replace the worn-out pipes at Jalan SS 9A/12, SS 9A/1, SS 9A/7, SS 9A/8, SS 9A/9, SS 9A/13, SS 9A/14, SS 9A/18 and SS 9A/19. Most of these areas mentioned are at the lowland of the new village and are black spots for pipe burst.

The Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung (JKKK) Seri Setia and I would like to urge all villagers to attend this briefing and obtain further information from SYABAS and the contractor.
