A boost for single mothers

Festive cheer: Lau presenting a cheque for RM2,500 to single mothers of Mas Merah Association for Single Mothers.

SINGLE mothers and their children will not be forgotten no matter how rapidly the society changes. This was evident at a special Buka Puasa session organised by Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San and Mas Merah Association for Single Mothers on Wednesday at the welfare home in Petaling Jaya.

About 120 mothers and their children were treated to a sumptuous traditional spread in the company of Lau, Petaling Jaya City Council councillor Tiew Way Keng and other DAP members.

Lau also channelled RM2,500 from the Constituency Development Fund to help in the operations of the home founded by single mother Sharifah Kamariah Syed Ibrahim.

“Single mothers have not been given much attention by members of the society and we hope this small contribution can at least help boost their morale and alleviate their burden,” said Lau,

He said other DAP-elected representatives would soon hold Buka Puasa events or Hari Raya open house at their respective areas in the run-up to DAP national-level Hari Raya celebration on Oct in Bangi.
