Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San had advised the public to report any misconduct or any complaints that they may have against any of the assemblymen's staff or party member to the police or the DAP's disciplinary committee instead of spreading baseless rumours verbally and via the short-message-system (SMS).
Lau said this after both of his assistants, Dariff Din and Ning Sang, had lodged a police report to clear their name due to alleged rumours which were spread verbally and via SMS that both of them were collecting RM 5 per month from each of the illegal wet market traders in SS2's wet market in Petaling Jaya.
"In return, those illegal traders would be able to receive from Dariff and Ning a valid Petaling Jaya City Council's (MBPJ) licence that will enable them to operate," revealed Lau during a press conference held at the Selangor State Assembly building this morning.
"There are few things I wish to clarify with the public. Firstly, the area of SS2 is not under my constituency or supervision as it was to be under the constituent of the Damanasara Utama assemblyman while I am under the constituent of Kampung Tunku so it would not be possible for me to help them," explained Lau.
Lau said that furthermore when he and his assistants received the information in June, his assistants denied any wrongdoing when he questioned them.
"Since they had denied committing such actions, I then demanded that they lodge a police report to clear their name as their image would be tarnished by the rumours," added Lau.
"Since SS2 is not in my jurisdiction, the issuance of licences to illegal wet market traders there is out of the question," said Lau.
"For me to do it, I would at least need to go through few persons or may be at least the representative of that constituency which is Dr Cheah Wing Yin," disclosed Lau.
Lau also mentioned that the councillor for that area, Terence Tan, who is a member of DAP was already helping the illegal traders to get the licences at no cost.
Lau claimed that his assistants would be guilty of lodging a false police report if the police investigation ought to indicate that they were really taking monies from those illegal traders.
"If they were really found to be involved in this licence issuance issue then they will be guilty of lodging a false police report and in addition to that I'll take action on them myself but now we could only wait and see whether or not the police would be able to arrest the person spreading these rumours," said Lau.
