I have written a complaint letter to Transport Minister Dato’ Seri Ong Tee Keat and Road Safety Department (Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya – JKJR) Director-General, Datuk Suret Singh on several last-minute cancelations of a road safety programme organized by Kampung Tunku Assemblyman Service Centre.
The programme was a simple half-day programme which involved a road safety ceramah conducted by expert. In this case, I have decided to engage Road Safety Department (JKJR) and had written to JKJR to request for a speaker on road safety. My first letter was issued on 13th August 2009 to the Director of Selangor Road Safety Department when the festive season was nearing then and it was important to engage the department in educating the general public on road safety.
The first programme was planned at the end of August but was postponed due to fasting month. A second date was proposed on 10th October 2009 but it was unfortunately postponed agtain at the eleventh hour due to some “ad-hoc programme from the Federal Road Safety Department”.
I had then re-proposed the third date on 31st October 2009 and it was again called off at the eleventh hour due to another “ad-hoc programme in Selayang”.
I am upset by these incidents as Road Safety Department should have managed their human resources properly without jeopardizing public events held by elected representatives in conjunction with JKJR whenever there is any “ad-hoc programme”
I will be deeply upset if there is any element of political interference from the federal level as such event is held for the benefit of the people and should be treated above politics.
Such incidents have raised serious question of whether JKJR is sincere in lowering road accidents in Malaysia or they are only interesting in politicking when dealing with Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives, just the same other Federal Government agencies.
I hope that either the ministry of the Federal Road Safety Department could give me a proper answer on this complaint.

Looks like the Federal Road Safety Department is more involved in politics than having an interest in the promotion of Road Safety among the rakyat.
The Road Safety Department should rise above political considerations and give their priority to promote , enhance and educate the rakyat on the importance of SAFETY on the road.
No wonder that our road safety campaigns did not reduce the incidents of road accidents and death as this department is staffed more with politicians than road safety professionals.
I am sad that this state of affairs can happen. They are only paying lip service to road safety.
Hence, the Federal Road Safety Department exists just in name and the Federal Government is just not interested in the promotion of Road Safety education, campaigns and Awareness programmes.
