THE Sungai Way new village in SS9A, Petaling Jaya, needs more attention because there are a lot of problems there.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San said that he had applied to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) for a small area in the Medan Selera Wawasan in SS3 which he could use to service his constituents.

“I have a service centre in SS9A but because of the large number of complaints I receive there, I have to separate the SS1 and SS3 areas from SS9A,” Lau said during his Christmas open house at the SS3 multi-purpose hall.

He has another service centre at 77, Jalan 20/9, Taman Paramount.

Lau said that his main focus as an assemblyman was to see to the welfare of the poor and the elderly.

So far, more than a thousand senior citizens in Kampung Tunku have registered for the Mesra Usia Emas programme, under which the state government would pay RM2,500 to the next-of-kin of senior citizens who passed away.

He said that about 8,000 of the 30,000 registered voters in Kampung Tunku were senior citizens.

Lau said the state government would look into providing medical benefits worth RM1,000 for senior citizens.

More than 200 people turned up at the Christmas gathering, including children from Rumah Hope.

The Megah Methodist Church Care Group carollers entertained guests as they tucked into the food.

Lau also handed out Christmas gifts to children below 12 years old during the open house.
