Free Mammogram For 1 Million Women In Selangor

Do you know breast cancer is the most common form of cancer afflicting Malaysian women of all races. Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate - whether you’re Malay, Indian, Chinese or everything in-between.

Breast Cancer in Malaysia – the stark facts
* Breast cancer was the commonest overall cancer as well as the commonest cancer in women amongst all races from the age of 20 years in Malaysia for 2003 to 2005.
* Breast cancer is most common in the Chinese, followed by the Indians and then, Malays.
* Breast cancer formed 31.1% of newly diagnosed cancer cases in women in 2003-2005.
* The Age Standardised Rate (ASR) of female breast cancer is 47.4 per 100,000 population (National Cancer Registry Report 2003-2005). Amongst the Chinese, it is higher at 59.9 per 100,000 population, for the Indians, the ASR is 54.2 per 100,000 and it is lowest in the Malays at 34.9 per 100,000 population.
* A woman in Malaysia has a 1 in 20 chance of getting breast cancer in her lifetime
* The cumulative life time risk of developing breast cancer for Chinese women, Indian women and Malay women were 1 in 16, 1 in 17 and 1 in 28 respectively.
* The peak incidence appeared to be 50-59 years old.

Over the years from 1993 to 2003, there were a total of 1818 breast cancer patients in the University Hospital. The number of breast cancer patients increased annually, with the highest recorded in 2003. This was 6 times the number of breast cancer patients in 1993.

Breast cancer is more common in Chinese women compared to Malay women. 2% of these patients were below 30 years of age. The majority of the cancer patients were in the 40-49 year age group when they were first diagnosed. However, this is NOT age-specific incidence but hospital incidence that could be influenced by the population it serves. Perhaps, there is a younger urban population or perhaps, the older folks prefer traditional/kampung treatment. 30-40% of the patients presented in the late stage and although women are now presenting with smaller tumours, the decrease in size is not significant. The Selangor State Government launches a new scheme under its "Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor" to cater for the health of women.

The scheme is named as "1 million Healthy Selangor Women Campaign - Women Health Scheme" or "MammoSEL"

The State Government under its Women Affairs Standing Committee is providing free mammogram screening for ladies who are 40 years old or above.

For women residing in DUN Kampung Tunku, please call the ADUN's office for registration at 03-78754724. Members of the public can also call toll free hotline at 1300-800-800 for more information.

The program will be a monthly program in DUN Kampung Tunku on eveery 20th of each month. Transportation will be provided.

Rodziah lodged police report against rape remarks

Selangor EXCO and ADUN for Batu Tiga, YB Rodziah Ismail today lodged a police report in Shah Alam Police District Headquarters in Section 11 against some vulgar remarks made on her during a dialog with a group of residents from Shah Alam Section 23.

In her police report, Rodziah said that the police should investigate the offenders and bring them to court.

She also claimed that she does not intend to divert the focus on the real issue of moving the disputed Hindu temple from Section 19 to Section 23, that she has to lodge the police report in view of the police's inaction to safeguard her personal safety as a female elected representative who was threatened to be raped during the dialog.

I was there to lend my support to YB Rodziah. Also present were Shah Alam MP YB Khalid Samad, Kota Raja MP YB Dr Siti Mariah, Subang Jaya ADUN YB Hannah Yeoh and Rawang ADUN YB Gan Pei Nee.

甘榜东姑排舞慈善派对300名女性参与

甘榜东姑州议员办公室今天假SS3八打灵再也市政厅举办一场别开生面的排舞慈善派对，成功吸引超过300名女性参与，场面热烈壮观。

这场排舞慈善派对是民主行动党甘榜东姑州议员刘永山办公室联合八打灵再也市议员张菲倩以及八打灵再也北区国会议员潘俭伟办公室联办的活动。

大会也现场筹获2千500令吉给一间位于八打灵再也SS3的孤儿院，协助孤儿院的常年开销。

筹委会主席陈玲颖表示，这是今年八打零再也主办这场大型排污慈善派对，目的是希望在促进八打灵再也的排舞水平以外，也希望能够借助排舞活动做慈善工作，回馈社会。

甘榜东姑州议员刘永山说强调雪州政府和行动党一直非常支持所有有益身心的活动。

“排舞活动最近数年来深获国内妇女的欢迎。这项活动已经不再是一项运动而已，而是妇女们融入社会，重拾信心的社交活动。”

潘俭伟在致词时也说：“排舞活动只是让妇女更容易融入主流社会的启蒙步骤而已，因为马来西亚的妇女们依然面对许多不公平的待遇。因此我们必须不分男女一起努力消除所有其实女性的政策和条例。”

这场排舞慈善派对是从星期天上午10点一直进行到下午6点。

基尔发表顽皮言论

针对雪州政府决定留任黄洁冰州行政议员职位，雪州反对党领袖基尔日前向媒体发表谈话，感谢州政府的决定，并且将会‘全面利用这个课题攻击雪州政府’。基尔的言论是具有恶意企图的顽皮言论。

与其全面利用这个与州政府行政效率毫无关系的课题攻击雪州政府，基尔应该集中精神扮演反对党领袖的角色，监督州政府的施政。

自从出任雪州州议会反对党领袖以来，基尔的表现非常逊色。其在州议会的出席率更是低得惨不忍睹。

基尔甚至不知道他的同僚，也就是国阵邓普勒公园州议员拿督苏巴汉卡玛曾经在州议会公开支持黄结冰， 并对黄结冰的遭遇表示同情。基尔不知道，乃是因为当苏巴汉在州议会这么指出的时候，基尔和其他国阵州议员根本没有在州议会里面。

既然在国阵内部已有不同的意见，为何基尔还要利用这个课题大作文章呢？难道他不能够好好地利用宝贵的时间和精力监督雪州政府的施政？

Kenyataan Khir Toyo bahawa beliau berterima kasih kepada keputusan Kerajaan Selangor untuk mengekalkan jawatan YB Elizabeth Wong sebagai Exco dan ADUN Bukit Lanjan serta berjanji akan mengeksploitasi isu tersebut merupakan satu kenyataan yang berniat jahat dan nakal (mischievous)

Daripada mengeksploitasi isu-isu yang tiada kaitan dengan urusan pentadbiran kerajaan negeri dan tugas awam, Khir Toyo harus memberi lebih perhatian peranannya sebagai Ketua Pembangkang demi mengimbangi dan memantau perjalanan pentadbiran kerajaan negeri.

Buat sementara waktu, prestasi Khir Toyo sendiri sebagai Ketua Pembangkang adalah amat mengecewakan. Bahkan kehadiran beliau dalam persidangan DUN Selangor amat mengecewakan.

Khir Toyo mungkin juga tidak mengetahui bahawa ADUN BN untuk Taman Templer, YB Datuk Subahan Kamal juga pernah membangkitkan perkara ini dalam sidang DUN dan beliau mempunyai pendapat yang amat berbeza dengan Khir Toyo.

Kalau dalam BN sendiri pun mempunyai pendapat yang berbeza, apa gunanya Khir Toyo mewar-warkan bahawa beliau akan mengeksploitasi isu ini? Bukankah lebih baik untuk beliau menumpukan sepenuh perhatiannya terhadap kerja-kerja pemantauan pentadbiran kerajaan Selangor?

Memperkukuhkan Kesedaran ADUN terhadap CEDAW di Malaysia

I attended a program on Strengthening the understanding of CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discriminations Against Women) in De Palma Hotel, Shah Alam on 15th April.

The programme was organised by Selangor Exco YB Rodziah Ismail, who is overlooking the women affairs in Selangor.

Assemblyman helps single mums

Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San also donated RM2,500 to Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Mas Merah Selangor at the buka puasa event hosted for the organisation.

PETALING JAYA: Lau Weng San, Kampung Tunku state assemblyman, hosted his first ever buka puasa event for Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Mas Merah Selangor. He also donated RM2,500 to the organisation from his constituency development fund.

One hundred children and single mothers shared the buka puasa meal. After prayers, the children were given "duit raya" by Lau and Sharifah Kamariah Syed Ibrahim, who runs the home.

As single parent, Sharifah Kamariah did not let the bitter experience stop her from moving forward.

In 1966, the former secondary school teacher joined Single Mothers Association of Federal Territory/Selangor. In 1998, she was elected the association's president.

"Helping others has always been my nature. As a teacher I paid extra attention to my students from troubled homes as well as those raised by single parents," she said.

Lau invited the public to DAP's coming national level Hari Raya open house at Stadium Bangi.

Lau said: "All state assemblymen and members of parliament will also host Aidilfitri open houses to promote racial harmony."

MCA Wanita Chief YB Datuk Ng Yen Yen was quoted by major Chinese press today as advising women to dress in sexy see-through suit and applying perfumes when sleeping with hubbies.

She said that women should not be shy to do that as men tends to be flirting and are easily attracted by other women. She further said that if women simply dress up themselves, they will be like “yellow-faced” women which will drive their hubbies away.

What I wish to say is that Ng Yen Yen has both undermined the wisdom of women and men when she claimed that men tends to flirt around.

Need not to deny, each couple has their own way of getting along with each other. Ng Yen Yen’s belief that women should dress up themselves sexily to make themselves attractive to their husbands is something outrageous and ridiculous. It in itself is a humiliation towards the women. We cannot blame if this come out from some conservative political leaders but we cannot accept that this comes from MCA Wanita Chief.

Secondly, Ng Yen Yen’s claim is equally unfair to men as not all men flirt. This is soley her subjective view but is it true to all men? Is it even true to all women and to all couples?

Thirdly, instead of worrying over husbands-and-wives relations, why not she concentrate on how to uplift women status in nation building, particularly when we are moving into 2008. I believe each woman know best how to get along with their husband and Ng Yen Yen needs not to worry for them.

马华妇女组主席拿督黄燕燕医生在12月30日在槟城发表‘伟论’，说妇女在晚上睡觉时应装扮得美美，喷上香水；就算穿得透明些也不要紧，对丈夫不必害臊。

她说，一般上，女性是细心及多心的，但男人却花心，一些上年纪的男人，很可能会受不住外界诱惑，妇女若每天在家还随便穿着，脸白白或好像黄脸婆一样，可想像一些先生会有怎样想法。

黄燕燕是在槟华堂为「女性光辉贺国庆，爱国情怀50年──以你为荣」研讨会，以「光辉50年，妇女建国贡献」为题主讲时这么说。

第一、黄燕燕的言论除了贬低女性的雍智，也诋毁男性的智慧，因为黄燕燕称‘男人是花心的’。

家家有本难念的经。每一对夫妻也有他们的相处方式。黄燕燕认为天下女性应以性感衣着来吸引丈夫，简直就是匪夷所思、矫枉过正。本质来看，这对现代女性来说是一种歧视。 令人失望的是，类似言论并非是来自保守政党领袖，而是马华公会妇女组主席。

第二、黄燕燕的言论对男性不公平，尤其是黄燕燕称男人一般上都是花心的。这是黄燕燕的个人主观看法，但是这是否是放诸四海皆准的标准呢？这个说法是否有科学根据呢？是不是每一个女性都这么认为呢？

第三、黄燕燕身为马华公会妇女组主席，她理应关注的是如何在新的一年进一步提升妇女在国家的地位，而不是发表这种‘伟论’，教导妇女如何取悦丈夫。每一名妇女或妻子都有她自己本身的方法来处理和丈夫的关系，这轮不到黄燕燕，也不应该由黄燕燕来操心。

JAG or Joint Action Group for Gender Equality is usging the public not to vote for sexist MPs and asked political parties not to field them as candidate.

JAG's urges was published in the NST dated 9th December 2007.

What I wonder is if these sexist candidates manage to make their way up to represent their parties for the coming general election, what will other do, especially those who support the parties of these sexist candidates or are working with them?

Shall you vote for them too?

A vote for BN is certainly a vote for yes to sexist MPs, if they are the candidates for BN.

Don’t vote for sexist reps, says group

PETALING JAYA: The Joint Action Group for Gender Equality is urging the public not to vote for members of parliament who make sexist remarks and asked political parties not to field them as candidates.

The umbrella coalition of several women organisations — All Women’s Action Society (Awam), Sisters In Islam, Women’s Aid Organisation, Pusat Janadaya, Women’s Development Collective and Women’s Centre for Change — has been monitoring sexist comments made by MPs.

Awam executive director Honey Tan said: “Sexist remarks are not jokes. They are offensive and distasteful. They demean and devalue women.”

She said that the group had met Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz and Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib in July to express its disapproval about derogatory comments made by MPs.

“We have no confidence in MPs who do not respect women, and we will urge voters not to vote for them,” said Tan.

The group will send a list of MPs who had made sexist remarks to political parties soon.

首相署部长拿督麦西慕昨天向媒体透露说，国内强奸案逐年增加，今年首9 个月总共发生2千432 起强奸案，跟去年同时期1 千849 起宗比较，增加31.5%，平均每天发生8 至9 起！

麦西慕说，70% 的强奸案是相识者所干的，显示家庭和社会环节出了问题。“还有就是70%的受害者都在18岁以下。

政府公布的数字显示在过去4年政府因无法正确和专业地管理警察部队的各项问题，包括人力不足的问题，导致罪案率直线上升。

大部分罪案的直接和间接受害者为弱势族群，尤其是女性。罪案，尤其是强奸案，更是对各年龄层女性的一大威胁。

在2003年，我国每天有三名女性被强奸。这个数字在2006年高涨至每天6.7个人。到了今年首九个月，这个数目竟然已经飙升至9个人。这再再显示虽然政府在过去9个月着手处理治安败坏的问题，包括加强警察部队的人力分配和器材供应，政府的努力显然没有达到预期的效果。

其实除了强奸案，妇女面对的治安问题还包括一般的抢劫、攫夺、偷窃、破门行窃的案件。至于强奸案，许多非政府组织的调查显示，在每一宗向警方投报的强奸案之中，就有至少三宗强奸案是没有向警方投报的。所以，我们有理由相信我国每天不幸遭强奸的女性现在已经超过9人！

如果美国洛杉矶2006年因为平均每2天发生3宗强奸案就已经成为女性不宜居住的地方，那么马来西亚岂不是成为一个对女性高度危险的国家？

我呼吁政府和警察部队能够抛弃他们的否定症候群，着手处理治安败坏的问题，严重看待，为何经过一连串的努力，国内的治安和强奸案依然未见好转。

野新国会议员再次侮辱女性

（野新讯）野新国会议员拿督莫哈末赛益周五（26日）早上在望万州选区一项官民交流会上，说了个笑话来隐喻国阵的领袖不会只看不做，也不会只说不做，更不会空许诺言，而是以实事求是的踏实行动为民服务。

他在会上说∶“有一位新娘子，嫁了3次，仍然是处子之身。原来，她第一次嫁给眼科医生，早看午看晚看，只看不做。第二次嫁给一位律师，从早讲到晚，只讲不做。第三次嫁给回教党，从早到晚许诺要做，可是就没有付诸行动。”

出席者哄堂大笑

“新娘子气极了，来找我求教，我说，你嫁给国阵领袖吧，包你今天结婚，明天就生孩子。”莫哈末赛益声称，国阵领袖在还没结婚前早早就“做了”，当然马上有“成绩”交出来。出席者听了他的笑话，顿时哄堂大笑。

这项交流会是特为首席部长拿督斯里莫哈末阿里访问望万选区而设，在望万州选区办公署广场举行。出席者有望万州议员拿督锺谭安、万里望州议员阿布毕、野新国会选区内国阵成员党领袖及各族村民，情况热烈。

首席部长在会上颁发证书给望万村委会委员，也进行屠妖节施赠，让选区内的印裔贫老可以欢度即将来临的屠妖节。

在国会选区领袖的陪同下，首席部长也巡视了阿依班纳热水湖的旅游景点工程，并为赤贫屋主持开幕及参观进步花园的水果摊档。 （光明日报?2007.10.27）
