Cops and residents meet to solve problems

THE Petaling Jaya police force has found that its first Face-to-Face Programme is more effective in reaching out to the public after switching from its monthly Meet-the-People session.

The programme is aimed at providing the community with an opportunity to meet the PJ OCPD and his team to highlight their problems and provide feedback on the police force’s services.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San urged the Federal Government to boost the police force by setting up more police training centres and provide them with better salaries and incentives to encourage them to work with pride and honour.

“Alternatively, the Federal Government can create a separate scheme for the police that differs from civil servants, and attract more graduates to join the police.

“Community policing is something that should be seriously looked into but the problem is the difficulty in getting people to come together as a community.

“We can’t rely on the RAs alone and need to educate people that they can’t demand without contributing,” said Lau.
