Residents complained against noise pollution by developer

There is an on-going condominium project located at the old squatter houses of Taman Aman, near the Paramount Garden LRT which have been giving the residents problems even before the condominium is completed.

The condominium was supposed to be built behind a row of semi-Ds along Jalan 22/44, near the lake. When piling work started, residents complained that the developers used the old-fashioned diesel-powered piling machines which shooked the whole area everytime when piling is done.

Residents have complained to various authorities but nothing was done. A resident’s wall cracked as a result of the piling work. The developer also caused their excess road from Lorong 22/44D to neighboring lanes to collapse.

But their worst nightmare is simply the extension of working time by the developer. There were times when the developer worked right up to 10 or even 11pm. They are only allowed to work from 8am to 6pm.

Scores of cement mixers can be seen moving in and out of the site using our roads to deliver cement. The sound of hammering, cranes moving construction materials and lorries moving in and out which caused them sleepless nights especially their babies.

Work continues immediately through the night after lying low for one or two days after their complaint. Once, the developer even worked way past midnight i.e. until 1.00am!

The residents especially those near the construction site cannot sleep due to the noise and brightness as a result of the work.

The residents would like to have the entrance to the condominium through the existing Landscape Garden on the Government TOL land instead of coming from Jalan 22/44.

I have organized the meeting between MBPJ, developer and the residents on 16th April 2008 in MBPJ headquarters. The major dispute is on the working hour. The developer would like to work till 8pm and finally they agree to work from 7am to 7pm till November 2008 after much negotiation. (November 2008 is the estimated completion of physical construction by the developer’s contractor).

The access road is changed to Jalan SS1/25, but since Jalan 22/44 is connected to Jalan SS1/25, I will check if the proposed access is a viable option or not.

I think residence of the Paramount Condominium are going to have health problems later on. The condo is right next to the TNB power line. It's less than 50 metres from the condo.

Those who bought the units facing the power lines directly would see it everyday. In Feng Shui, it's not advisable to stay near power lines.

Besides the power line, they would also have to deal with the noise from the LRT station. I hope the developers soundproof all the units.

3 years from now, you'll probably see a story in The Star's metro section about residence complaining about the noise from the LRT, the traffic congestion because of the access road or health problems from the power line.
