Five questions raised to Wee Ka Siong

I was in Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (SCAH) on 17th January 2006 night, attending a forum jointly organised by Oriental Daily and SCAH Bureau of Socio-Economics on Chinese Education in Malaysia.

Invited panelists including YB Dr Wee Ka Siong, MCA MP for Ayer Hitam, YB Tan Kok Wai, DAP MP for Cheras and also Mr Chen Baowu from Dong Jiao Zong.I had posed five question s on YB Dr Wee Ka Siong, being the first who raised to ask questions. YB Dr Wee KA Siong had mentioned that he had prepared to face “bullets” from the floor the moment he agreed to attend the forum tonight.

Although he had well-prepared, I hoped that he did not assume that questions from the floor were all bullet-type questions as rational questions from the floor should be raised and that all panelist shall answer all questions rationally. It should be a rational and open discussion whatsoever.

I had raised 5 questions to YB Dr Wee Ka Siong:

1. People has been asking the same questions over how many SJKCs has MCA built, or how much allocation has MCA been successful in securing for SJKCs, but these questions has somehow missed the forest from the wood as the real question is transparency: What has MCA done? What are the outcomes of their discussions with various parties, including government officers and officers from the Ministry of Education?

2. Why Datuk Liow Tiong Lai on 12th October 2005 during Policy Debate stage of 2006 Budget has lamented the opposition as “playing politics” whenever they raised education issue? I managed to refer to the hansard of that day on the spot and I demanded YB Dr Wee Ka Siong as MCA Youth Secretary-General to come out with an answer with regards to the speech of MCA Youth Datuk Liow Tiong Lai.

3. Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting has reportedly said in a news article by Chinese Malaysiakini that MCA is prepared to have a dialogue with Jiang Xiu Kun. Jiang Xiu Kun has mentioned that problems have arisen since three years ago when the government first implemented the policy of teaching mathematics and science in English. I asked YB Wee to explain if the problems as narrated by Jiang are valid arguments, why hadn’t OKT meet with Jiang and take remedial measures to rectify the problems three years ago but now?

4. 6-2-3-2 formula: Since it is a formula for teaching “terminologies”, then why should it take up four official periods of SJKC standard 4? Isn't it a wastage if we need four precious periods just to teach terminologies?

5. Kepala Batas MCA Divisional Chief Wu Bao Quan? Lawyer of the developer has been reported by Merdeka review that Wu has asked for bribe during discussion. Since Wee is the only representative from ruling government is coming from the same party as Wu, I asked him if he has any explanation on this reports.
