How many of us have forgotten?

How many of us have forgotten?

How many of us still remember?

Do you still remember the Seagull Express ferry tragedy one year ago when nine passengers were drown and more than a dozen passengers injured?

Well, the family members of the two victims came to my office a few weeks ago complaining that the Ministry of Transport has been silent on the issue for the past one year.

I immediately looked up the newspaper cuttings, the DAP websites and news websites. The last we heard of this issue was the promise by the former Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy that a committee will be set up to investigate if there is any negligence caused by Maritime Department officers.

Nothing much was reported after that, not even the details of the investigations.

Today, the family members of the victims came to the Parliament to submit a memorandum to the Minister of Transport, Datuk Ong Tee Keat, a candidate for MCA Presidential Election.

Unfortunately, the ministry’s cubicle office in the Parliament was not manned. Not even until I met an old friend of mine who worked in the Prime Minister Department that I managed to get hold of an officer of the MOT. The MOT officer then promised to send one officer to collect the memorandum.

Probably Datuk Ong is too busy with his MCA Presidential Election campaign. After all, more than two thousands MCA central delegate will cast their votes coming Sunday to decide who will be their Party President for the next three years.

Who cares?

But we care, and we care regardless who is the new MCA President. Win, lose or draw, Ong Tee Keat ought to give us an explanation.
